Natural Dye Textiles

A very select collection of one-off pieces made from natural dyed fabric, celebrating the colours that emerge from the natural world, in particular Australian native plants, through an elemental process that is immensely satisfying and full of wonder.

Using locally foraged, already fallen leaves and flowers of Australian eucalyptus trees, or picked directly from the artist’s garden, colour is coaxed, shifting colours with iron, indigo and other natural dyes to extract an intriguing range of hues, incorporating texture in various experimental ways.

“Throughout the process, I feel more connected with the underlying forces of change in nature. In the interaction between the materials, myself and the natural ‘brew’, and the dye with the fabric, there is a relationship full of energy, surprise and constantly evolving colours and textures.”

“I enjoy creating one-off individual pieces made with these materials, that have a story behind them and are functional. I want to honour the ritual of everyday actions in my process, and make things can be passed down the line, or be upcycled and exist again in a different way.”
